What kind of NFC tag do I need?

Any generic NFC tag. You don't need a special device: a plain NFC sticker, key fob or blank NFC card works, including the common NTAG213, NTAG215, NTAG216 and MIFARE tags. A pack of stickers costs a few dollars online. Focus Up only reads the tag's serial number, so a tag you already use for something else works too.

Bank cards and transit cards won't work.

How do I pair my tag?

Tap the tag button in the top right of the home screen, tap Pair your tag, then hold the top of your iPhone near the tag. You can check it any time with Test tag.

I lost my tag. How do I get back in?

While you're locked, tap Can't find my tag? and start the countdown. After 15 minutes on that screen you can unlock. Leaving the app resets the countdown. You get 3 emergency unlocks per week.

Once you're unlocked, you can pair a new tag from the tag screen.

Can I use Focus Up without a tag?

Yes, but it's off by default. Open Settings (the gear, top left) and turn on Allow locking without a tag. Without a tag, you'll wait 15 minutes on the unlock screen every time you lock, up to 3 times a week. Locks that come from a schedule end on their own at the end time. Schedules need a paired tag.

Why can't I change my block list or schedules?

Your block list, your tag and your schedules can't be changed while you're locked. That's on purpose, so a lock can't be cut short. Unlock with your tag first.

My schedule didn't lock my apps

Make sure Focus Up still has Screen Time access in Settings > Screen Time, and that you've picked at least one app to block. Schedules start on their own even when Focus Up is closed.

"Unlock with tag" on the block screen doesn't open the app

That button works through a notification. Turn on notifications for Focus Up in Settings > Notifications > Focus Up, or just open Focus Up and tap Tap tag to unlock.

Which iPhones does it work on?

Any iPhone running iOS 17 or later. Focus Up needs the iPhone's NFC reader, so it isn't available on iPad.

How do I get a refund?

Apple handles App Store refunds. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.
